Poll Update: 49% Believe GOP Stalling Recovery To Beat Obama

Despite the Democratic-leaning source this is the first poll I’ve come across that broaches the perception of voters on this topic. It’s worth asking and it may well be a valid issue for other polling institutes to track. In addition, one must wonder why Democrats and the Obama campaign are not hounding the Republican Party on this and the 2009 inaugural night meeting with the top GOP leadership to develop a strategy of obstructionism designed to make Obama a one-term president, a strategy which overrode the needs of a country in economic crisis.

Nearly half of voters believe that Republicans are deliberately hamstringing efforts to resuscitate the economy in order to bolster their chances of defeating President Barack Obama, according to a new poll released Tuesday.

The latest survey from Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling (PPP), conducted in conjunction with Daily Kos and SEIU, shows that 49 percent of registered voters nationwide think Republicans are “intentionally stalling efforts to jumpstart the economy” to ensure Obama’s defeat in November.  Half of all independents surveyed feel the same way.

The results are sure to embolden Democrats, who have long maintained that Republicans are actively rooting for economic failure to undermine Obama politically.

  1. Reblogged this on The ObamaCrat.Com™ and commented:
This means 51% of Americans are stupid. Thank you Mashed Potato Bulletin

    • Jueseppi> Or at least half of that 51% haven’t been paying much attention. Thanks for the reblog 🙂

      • My pleasure, we need to get this message out there.

      • Oh yes we do. I got an email survey from the DNC last night and in the “Do you have any further comments” section I explained in as much detail as I could in 500 characters what they needed to focus on. I said they were in dire need of a bulldog communications person, needed to TELL people what was in the Financial and Health Care reforms and PLEASE… debunk the invented Obama the Right has created.
Who knows if anyone will take me seriously there. It seems sometimes they know better than the average people.

  2. Because I will account for the ignorant, so 40% thinks the GOP has been pro-active … and interesting thought.

    • “so 40% thinks the GOP has been pro-active ”

It’d be worth asking a follow up to that poll question for those who thought they weren’t intentionally stalling. But there are some potentially telling details from the breakdown in the pdf. Of the 49% who think the GOP is messing with things, 22% were conservative, 61% were moderate and 75% liberal (not surprising on the last one. Then on the other side 65% conservative, 28% moderate and 16% liberal. And 12% of conservatives and 11% of moderates were unsure.

What can be deduced from those numbers? Maybe the number of moderates and conservatives who think the GOP are stalling things and those who are unsure speak more to that perception.

      What do you think?

  3. I think 50% are in denial, and 1% don’t care because they will be fine either way.
