A peek at a Koch Brothers’ America

Koch David_As some may know David Koch ran as the vice presidential candidate on the Libertarian Party ticket with then presidential candidate,  Edward Clark. They ran against President Jimmy Carter and Republican candidate, Ronald Reagan on a platform which may have appeared somewhat ridiculous then but sounds disturbingly familiar today. Bernie Sanders, senator of Vermont, was kind enough to dig up this election platform on which David Koch ran 34 years ago and, as we’ve seen in recent years, still clings to. Unfortunately, in today’s political environment he appears to be making headway toward, at least, some of his agenda goals.

What’s truly wrong with the Ryan Budget

Paul RyanBy , The Washington Post

The tax plan embedded in the House Republican budget would cut taxes by $5.7 trillion over the next decade, with the benefits flowing disproportionately to very wealthy households, according to a new analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

Taxpayers earning more than $1 million a year would benefit the most from the GOP tax plan, the analysis shows, reaping an average $400,000 tax break that would send their after-tax income soaring by nearly 20 percent.

Meanwhile, taxpayers earning between $40,000 and $50,000 a year —

Drones are stealing my privacy!

predator droneThe rumor mill received an injection of new fuel after the release of Department of Justice memo outlining the Obama Administration’s legal justifications for drone attacks on American citizens. This led to worries about their use over U.S. soil and renewing big brother-esque speculative predictions for what will come. The privacy of which all Americans are entitled is on the verge of collapse. But is it? How valid is this path of logic that begins with this memo and leads to the sacrifice of personal privacy?

Daily Scoop: State GOP seek electoral changes to win elections

2012 Electoral MapWhile I do agree that there should be more proportional allocation of the electoral college votes but the reasons behind the GOP’s motivations to make the changes now are highly disingenuous. Just like their attempts to suppress Democratic voters this last election and the gerrymandering of many districts after the 2010 midterms this electoral change is only about finding a way to skew the system to win.

Daily Scoop: GW’s Interior Secretary’s New Bathroom Cost WHAT?

KempthorneAs we watch the congressional Republicans demand sacrificial spending cuts for not hobbling the U.S. economy over raising the debt ceiling, the cost taxpayers paid for George Bush’s Interior Secretary’s personal bathroom has come to light.Dirk  Kempthorne, former Idaho governor, served as the Bush Administration’s Secretary of the Interior from 2006 to 2008. Something else that’s come out of NRA CEO LaPierre’s Mouth

Wayne LaPierreAfter defending his organization’s “logical” stance to arm elementary schools to prevent mass shooting tragedies on Meet the Press this morning, it seemed appropriate to revisit what else has leapt from Wayne LaPierre’s mouth highlighting his “logical”, and sane, state of mind.

Obama’s Gun Control Conspiracy [Repost]

While great for a laugh, this excerpt from the Colbert Report illustrates how the political rumor mill stretches and contorts real world actions into messages that create fears in the general public that don’t actually exist.

Daily Scoop: When you don’t vote…

How Dark Money Helped Republicans Hold the House and Hurt Voters

Gerrymander_In the November election, a million more Americans voted for Democrats seeking election to the U.S. House of Representatives than Republicans. But that popular vote advantage did not result in control of the chamber. Instead, despite getting fewer votes, Republicans have maintained a commanding control of the House. Such a disparity has happened only three times in the last century.

Analysts and others have identified redistricting as a key to the disparity. Republicans had a years-long strategy of winning state houses in order to control each state’s once-a-decade redistricting process.
