Drones are stealing my privacy!

predator droneThe rumor mill received an injection of new fuel after the release of Department of Justice memo outlining the Obama Administration’s legal justifications for drone attacks on American citizens. This led to worries about their use over U.S. soil and renewing big brother-esque speculative predictions for what will come. The privacy of which all Americans are entitled is on the verge of collapse. But is it? How valid is this path of logic that begins with this memo and leads to the sacrifice of personal privacy?

TAXES! How does the U.S. measure up?

Tax returnsTaxes are always a political hot potato but over the last few years they have been the searing topic of choice as the Bush Tax Cuts’ expiration was debated by many a political pundit, each and every one of them apparent “experts”. Screams and wails about how much individual or “job creator” taxes will rise or fall should one or the other candidate wins. Constant complaints emanate from the Republican Party and the likes of Grover Norquist that taxes are too high, how any increase will destroy the economy and only lower taxes will save us all despite the large temporary cuts which have been in effect for more than a decade.

Gun Control Debate: A few facts

Gun_ConstitutionGiven the numerous calls for the gun control legislation after the multitude of mass shootings this past year alone and the subsequent debates across the country taking shape now, it goes without saying many a gun control proponent has found themselves in an elongated back and forth with a pro-gun advocate. Much the rhetoric from the pro-gun side includes claims that “They’re taking away our guns” or “Obama is violating the 2nd Amendment, impeach him” or “Gun laws don’t work”. Much of this rhetoric sprouts from any number of right-wing blogs or Fox News opinion page and of course from the current leader of the National Rifle Associate, Wayne LaPierre whose recent comments have yet to endear him in the minds of American public.

What are Republicans’ Priorities Now?

In 2010, the Republicans’ leader in the U.S. Senate, Mitch McConnell, stated publicly that the party’s number one priority would be to deny President Obama a second term. This decision was made during a quiet, behind closed doors meeting of GOP luminaries both past and present on inaugural eve 2009. They determined it was better to pursue a strategy of obstructionism meant to halt any Democratic legislation rather than taking action to the address the economic calamity the country, and the world, was facing at that time.

Daily Scoop: Why the Bush tax cuts were enacted

Washington Post Factchecker:

GW Bush_cropWe’ve noted this history before, but many people have forgotten it. Given that the dispute over whether to extend all of the Bush tax cuts has now led the nation to the edge of the “fiscal cliff,” let’s take a trip back in time to recall why the Bush tax cuts were enacted in the first place. (The Fact Checker covered passage of the Bush tax cuts as an economic policy reporter for The Washington Post.)

Oddly, a key reason the tax cut became reality was because of a fear the United States soon would have zero debt.

And some still wonder why he was re-elected…

For some Obama’s re-election represented the coming of the rapture but for the rest of us it was a time to cheer as we realized, with a unified voice the majority of Americans chose the intelligent, human with a great sense of humor over the robot.

Students to Candidates “What have you done for me lately?”

Younger voters may pass on this years presidential elections. “It’s almost like if someone were voting in this election, it’d be like the lesser of two evils.” was the sentiment given by one Bowling Green University student in the swing state of Ohio. A new study found many of the under-30 crowd are not particularly interested in the sparing contest between President Obama and his challenger, Mitt Romney.

Despite young voters, those under 30 are more likely to vote Democrat, larger numbers of them are experiencing a lack in enthusiasm due in part to candidates’ inability to locate that common ground with college students.

Daily Scoop: Mitt will create 12 Million jobs in 1st Term…

Mitt Romney has touted his job creation prowes throughout the 3 presidential debates even providing us with a number, 12 MILLION new jobs during his first term. That’s great… that’s astounding! That would best even Obama’s 5.4 million new jobs over the last 2 years. But how will he accomplish this? Well, the answer is… NOTHING. In order to create 12 million new jobs within his first term Mitt Romney, President Mitt Romney will have to do nothing whatsoever… for the simple reason that those 12 million new jobs are ALREADY slated to be created under current Obama policies. As with foreign policy, all Mr. Romney has to do is continue with what has already been done under the Obama presidency.
