Politifact gives Conservative PAC a Smackdown

Newspapers in the battleground states of Florida and Ohio were riddled with ads from the conservative political action committee Government is Not God claiming the darndest things. Politifact, the Pulitzer Prize winning factcheck website, took notice and essentially gave what can only be described as a serious smackdown.

The Daily Scoop: Romney Welfare Ad found to be…. [video]

Forget, for a moment, tax cuts and the fiscal cliff. Mitt Romney wants to talk about welfare.

A Romney ad opens with a picture of President Bill Clinton signing the 1996 landmark welfare reform act, which shifted the program from indefinite government assistance to one based on steering people toward employment and self-reliance.

The words “unprecedented success” flash on the screen [This, despite frequent claims from Republicans welfare programs are failures and contribute to the “nanny state”] . Clinton and a bipartisan Congress, a narrator says, “helped end welfare as we know it by requiring work for welfare.”

The Daily Scoop: SuperPACs required to disclose donors

On June 12th the 4th District Court of Appeals unanmously upheld a lower court’s decision to require SuperPACs, such as Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS, who try to disguise themselves as “social welfare” organizations to disclose their list of donors.  Thus far these groups have delayed these releases quite probably in an attempt to wait out the clock on the 2012 elections keeping voters in the dark about who is behind many of the questionable claims portrayed in their political ads.

As the general election is set and the two presidential candidates square themselves into their positions the vote public wants to hear what each has done, what each has accomplished. Here are their views of what they’ve achieved and what they will bring to the presidency.
