As the debate over the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), or drones, as a weapon against terrorism and domestically by public agencies, a new poll conducted by the Pew Research Center found a majority of Americans support the program overall. There is concern over civilian casualties associated with these strikes, as there should be. All possible attempts should be made to avoid civilian deaths but it is worthy of note that since 2009 the rate of civilian deaths has dropped significantly. This reduction was…
Since they started way back in 1940 this group of experts have correctly predicted the winner each presidential election for the past 68 years except for two. Will their record hold true for this, their 18th election?
Who are these experts, you may ask? They are an intelligent group of individuals, 250,000 strong from all 50 states, 90 percent of whom say they would like to president some day. These experts are people you and I may know. They are our neighbors. They are this country’s future leaders. This group of experts are this nation’s students who have thoughtfully considered their choices before voting in this the 18th Scholastic Student Vote.
The Behavior Research Center poll released Saturday shows Obama ahead of Romney 42-40 percent among registered voters and 44-42 percent among likely voters.
In an interesting twist, after a poor showing by the President, a Reuters/IPSOS poll taken the day after the 1st 2012 Presidential debates between Romney and Obama shows a couple intriguing results.
The Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times poll showed Obama leading his Republican challenger Mitt Romney in:
- Florida 51%-45%,
- in Ohio 50%-44%, and
- in Pennsylvania 53%-42%.

In the event that Bill Pullman isn’t available, two-thirds of respondents to a new survey say that President Barack Obama would be better suited to handle an alien invasionthan presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
“We wanted the pulse on people’s opinions,” said Brad Dancer, senior vice president of research and digital media for National Geographic, who conducted the survey for the new series “Chasing UFOs.” “We wanted to get a sense of how Americans view UFOs, what people believe and how mainstream pop culture may or may not be playing into their opinions on it.”
Even as Speaker Boehner bemoans that Obama’s Dream Act executive order “puts everyone in a difficult position.” voters apparently feel it’s the right position to take. Perhaps the Speaker means it will place Republicans in the untenable position of agreeing with the Democratic leader of the country. Yes, yes… our sympathies go out the congressional Republicans.
This poses a interesting couple of questions… at what level does this reflect the perceptions displayed in an earlier poll which found 49% of voters think the GOP has intentionally sabotaged the economy for political gain and also how closely aligned to Bush’s economics do voters perceive current Republican policy to be?
More than two-thirds of Americans—including half of Republicans—still blame former President George W. Bush for the country’s economic ills, according to a new Gallup poll released on Thursday, hours before President Barack Obama was to deliver a high-stakes speech defending his handling of the weak economy.
Despite the Democratic-leaning source this is the first poll I’ve come across that broaches the perception of voters on this topic. It’s worth asking and it may well be a valid issue for other polling institutes to track. In addition, one must wonder why Democrats and the Obama campaign are not hounding the Republican Party on this and the 2009 inaugural night meeting with the top GOP leadership to develop a strategy of obstructionism designed to make Obama a one-term president, a strategy which overrode the needs of a country in economic crisis.
Nearly half of voters believe that Republicans are deliberately hamstringing efforts to resuscitate the economy in order to bolster their chances of defeating President Barack Obama, according to a new poll released Tuesday.
